The Flat Sisters prepare to take on the world

We just started a homeschool project--essentially "Flat Stanley" but with cuter flatties and without the copyright infringement--that I am very excited about. Anyone who is interested can read more about the project here.

I love homeschooling. Yes, I know kids do this project in public school, but we are getting to go all out with this in a way a public school teacher could not easily. And anything I am this excited about undoubtedly will be fun and educational for the kids. : )

  1. Looking forward to receiving the flat sisters. Please remind me -- who I should send them to. Wish we were taking a trip like we did with Patrick's flat Stanley. But the sisters can meet some of our International friends here. Then maybe you and the girls could look on a map to see where all the people live that the flat sisters meet.

  2. They could visit the northeastern Nevada high desert :)

  3. We went to Napa for the weekend and were at a winery on a tour. An older gentleman pulled out a Flat Stanley and asked if I could take a picture of it! Stanley got his picture taken with the rolling hills of vines behind him - just so pretty! It's a fun project, and not one I'd expect from a stuffy looking, white haired gentleman on a tour of a winery. :)

If your sisters want to visit the Silicon Valley, I'll take them to Google! :)

(Also, in a shameless bit of self promotion, I'm offering a giveaway on my blog - check it out!)

  4. How soon do the flat sisters get to me? We leave for Italy in 1 month, and I think they would fit just fine in my bag! We could also check out the indian mounds here in Alabama(if the weather cooperates); we live pretty close to an archeaological park.

  5. Mom, Susan will send to you, and you send to Rebecca. And it sounds like you should do it quickly, so the Flat Sisters (and their cousin Flat Stanley currently travelling with them) can go to ITALY!!! That is SO exciting, Rebecca! I completely forgot about your trip--since you have been planning it for so long, it seemed like it was still far away. : ) Please, please please send us (and Sonya) a postcard from Italy!!!

(idea for those of you who know the Flatties are coming: get your postcards now, someday when you are already out and doing errands, and then that will be one less thing you have to do when they arrive. : )

Thank you SO much for helping us with this project!

  6. Thanks for the invite, Juicy! If it gets back to us before the June deadline, then I will take you up on it! Typically you are just supposed to send the Flat traveler to someone you know and then from there you never know where it will end up. We cheated a little, since a new cousin-by-marriage just sent her Flat Stanley to us, and her mother requested we help get it to their grandparents, who live in India! So I planned a few stops for all the Flatties to make together before they start the long (and potentially dangerous) journey to India. There is a chance they will never make it. But we shall see!

  7. Thanks for joining in, Saved Quarter. : ) I wonder if that was someone's grandpa at the winery.

Forget the flat travelers--can WE come for a visit to Google???!!! ; ) We have friends who work up there, and we are close enough I should try to arrange a little field trip. If I get one in the works, I'll let you know! We can come by your (or your husband's) cubicle and say hi.

Thanks for the tip about the giveaway!

  8. Ah, we don't work at Google, but my husband does a consulting job there once a month. I wish one of us worked there - they have the Cafe 150, where all the food is home made and locally sourced.I would so dig that! We had two friends who worked there and both left before I got a chance to tag along for lunch. :)

Still, Monterey isn't too far for a day trip up, and there are lots of fun things for kids to do around here.
